FURIOUS pensioners have been left without a decent bowling green after a vandal etched a tribute to rock star Liam Gallagher in the turf.
The OAPs say the latest graffiti attack was so damaging that other youths, who use the green to play football and practise golf, have moved elsewhere!
The most recent vandalism was discovered shortly before a game was due to be played.
Thugs had broken into the site with spades and dug up the grass. One youth had etched the name Liam in a 12-foot stretch of the green.
One pensioner says local youths told him the word 'Liam' was cut into the turf as a tribute to pop band Oasis' frontman.
It is also possible that the name Liam belongs to one of the vandals - and has appeared in several other locations.
But Eric Salter from the Bowling Club said: "It doesn't matter why they did it, but it has left us without a green.
"Recently up to 20 or 30 children have started playing football on the green, which cut up the ground because they wear studs.
"And now even they aren't playing on our green because other vandals have caused so much damage."
He added: "This latest attack is wilful damage and obviously premeditated because they brought spades with them."
Mr Salter added that many bowlers avoid the green because they are intimidated by local youths who hang around Waverley Park.
Investigations are continuing into the latest vandal attack, said Preston Police. Preston Borough Council, who own the site, say they repair all damage done by the vandals.
