BURNLEY turned out one man short of a full squad at the Thompson Centre in the usual pre-season friendly match against Penwortham.
The two teams seemed well matched with Burnley edging ahead at half time with the score at 32-29. Everyone on the Burnley squad got in on the scoring action in the second half including surprise substitute Minozzi. There was nothing between the scoreline after 11 minutes until Burnley went on a scoring spree which saw them up by 10 points in the 17th minute Steve Simm's three-point shot sealed Penwortham's fate.
Burnley 101 Rossendale 63
DESPITE many first choice players being absent, Burnley took on a full squad from Rossendale. The court seemed to open up for Burnley, who used junior players Nicholson, Killian and Courtine with deadly accuracy - much to the dismay of the Rossendalians whose defence looked in disarray.
McEvoy, Redfearn and Crockford led the scoring onslaught which ended with Burnley up 55-31 at the half.
Rossendale still had no answers as Burnley's Thompson racked up several important points. Rossendale's zone-press and man-to-man defensive tactics, proved ineffectual against such a high energy Burnley squad.
Burnley's Crockford scored the century-making basket, but McEvoy proved to be the biggest offensive threat with a career-high 32 points to his credit.
