A TORRENTIAL downpour did nothing to dampen the spirits of members of the Old Lidunians' Association on their annual competition at the Royal Lytham course.
Forty-one competitors, all old boys of King Edward VII School, Lytham defied the elements to produce some excellent scores.
Paul Beverley with 34 points took the Handley Trophy whilst David Grady just held off strong challenges from Alan Roe and Bob Grant to become the winner of the Penry Trophy.
Gold secretary Mike Nield, who hands over the reins to David Abbott after 15 years as competitor organiser, said that the standard of play had been high.
"It is a great privilege to be able to play on an Open Championship course" he commented, "and all the competitors thoroughly enjoyed their round and the presentation dinner held in the clubhouse."
