IMAGES of the Fylde will be shown to the world at the finals of the Nations in Bloom competition.

Fylde Council has entered the competition which judges communities on how they manage their environment.

The entry drew on the involvement of a wide range of local organisations including Lytham St Annes Civic Society, Lytham Heritage Group and Fylde in Bloom.

Representatives will now make a video and slide show presentation at the competition finals in Japan in February.

A panel of judges comprising environment management professionals from around the world will assess the presentations.

Communities will be judged according to criteria including environmental improvements, heritage management and community involvement.

Fylde will be competing against other towns and regions from as far afield as the USA and Canada.

Fylde's director of tourism Dave Joy who submitted the entry said: "The Borough of Fylde has a great tradition of community involvement and a reputation for the quality of the natural and built environment. This is a tremendous opportunity to shout about our success and achievements and to learn more about what the best in the world are doing to manage their local environments in a sustainable way."

Fylde Council leader Councillor Paul Hayhurst added: "This is a great achievement for us and presents us with an ideal opportunity to tell the world about our borough."
