ST HELENS Council is giving its backing to a project which should be good news for cyclists.
The council's Highways and Transportation sub-committee has agreed to help finance a pilot scheme at Newton involving a sensor system which detects cyclists as well other traffic.
The first sites chosen are the junctions of Crow Lane East/Queens Drive and Crow Lane East/Belvedere Road. This is just one of £60,000 worth of cycling schemes which the council has agreed for go-ahead this year.
The Newton pilot scheme will be jointly paid for by the council and the Newton 21 Partnership SRB.
