A LOCAL railway station is set for a facelift, thanks to a community initiative.
A plan by Billinge and Seneley Green Parish Council to introduce flowers and hanging baskets to the platforms at Garswood station next year has received support from Merseytravel. And the parish council also wants to create a mural on the Wigan-bound platform.
Train operator First North Western is keen on the parish plans and is also committed to providing cycle racks at the station and extending the car parking area.
Meanwhile, talks are taking place with Railtrack over possible improvement work by them, including improved footbridge facilities.
Parish and borough councillor, Neville Bullock, said: "We know we are fortunate as a community to still have a railway station and we are anxious to make the most of the facility and encourage people to use it."
