DERBYSHIRE Hill youth centre in Parr is to be transformed into a cyber cafe.
The project has financial backing of £218,841 from Europe, the SRB fund and the borough council youth service. It will run for three years through to 2001.
The cyber cafe will be open to all the community offering training, participation and an introduction to the world of information technology. Computer training, qualifications, and Internet search will be available.
Individuals will be able to use the system to search for employment and training courses and undertake distance learning.
St Helens College, the Chamber of Commerce and schools are among those keen to see the scheme off the ground. St Helens Careers Service have already placed a careers officer at the centre.
The centre will also be used to deliver a special project to work with young people in the area at weekends.
