THE final brick of the entrance cone at the World of Glass museum site has been put in to place and heralds the completion of the first such cone in this country for more than 150 years
The impressive 50ft feature is made up of 80,000 bricks and at its widest point has a diameter of 40ft, the diameter at the top of the cone measuring 14 ft.
The cone, which has taken just 14 weeks to complete has a 15 angle and its construction was a joint effort between Taylor Woodrow and Leigh building firm Lightburn Construction.
As well as the completion of the cone, the team at the World of Glass have welcomed the installation of its first three exhibits: the Clare Island lighthouse; a periscope and an 11-ton Owens bottling machine.
Work is running on schedule for the completion of the state-of-the-art £14 million museum, which will open to the public in March next year and is expected to pull in 150,000 visitors a year.
