THREE people were seriously injured in a head-on road smash at the junction of Bolton Road and Aqueduct Road, Blackburn, today.
Police said two young men and one young woman were spotted speeding down Bolton Road in a white Toyota. A a police officer travelling in the opposite direction turned his car round and tried to follow them.
The Toyota then collided with a Daewoo car and the Toyota's driver and two passengers were thrown through the car windscreen. The driver of the Daewoo escaped with minor injuries.
Inspector Steve Haworth said: "It appears that speed seems to have been a factor here, as well as lack of respect for the wet road conditions.
"The three young people in the Toyota suffered serious injuries and we have serious fears for the condition of at least one of them."
