BOSSES at Clitheroe Auction Mart have been given the go-ahead to build on a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
Ribble Valley Council's planning committee heard Clitheroe Auction Mart Limited wanted to extend its Lincoln Way building onto the nearby SSSI.
The extension would include an auction room, reception, office and storage facilities, the meeting heard.
English Nature had asked for strict conditions to protect the site, particularly a quarried rock face of geological significance.
The Lancashire Wildlife Trust also wanted the rock face protected from the proposed development by a buffer zone of trees.
Councillors gave the scheme the go-ahead also on the condition that the new room be used for Clitheroe Auction Mart Limited business only.
