BLACKBURN Hawks fans had cause for celebration this weekend as their side lifted the Anglo-Welsh Cup.
The two-legged challenge match between Bobby Haig's side and Welsh rivals the Flintshire Freeze, resulted in home and away wins for the Blackburn outfit, but the second leg over the border was a little too close for comfort.
Saturday night saw the Hawks triumph over the Freeze at the Arena, with Eddie Cooper tarring in a 5-3 win after it was thought he would miss the game due to work commitments. And just last night Haig took his side to Flintshire where they ground out a narrow 5-4 victory. Hawks snatched the win in the last period having been behind throughout the game.
Haig was delighted with the win after last weekend's disappointing home draw with Nottingham. "This week the passing and the positional play was much better," said the Hawks boss. "The players fully deserve this after some good work in training."
Assistant coach Mark Ward added: "This is a squad with plenty of talent and this week we used it to great effect. Even without the under 19s, who had their own game to play, all the hard work in training paid off."
Hawks will be looking to build on this result in another double header next week. They travel to Fife on Saturday in the Border League before meeting Flintshire again in the English Division One (North).
