MORE than £1,000 was received towards the cost of essential repairs at St John's Church, Cliviger, at a gift day, when a service was conducted by the vicar, the Rev Lawrence Laycock.
The Parochial Church Council have launched an appeal for funds following an architect's report which indicated that the cost of repairs will amount to £100,000.
Some work has already been carried out at a cost of £17,000 but the largest item is for roof repairs. It is hoped that work can start soon.
Applications have been made to various sources for grants and events have been held to raise money locally.
Churchwarden Cynthia Taylor said 1,200 envelopes had been sent out for gift day and it was hoped more money would be added to that already donated.
