A NEW centre aimed at helping engineering workers learn new skills to safeguard the future of East Lancashire industry has been launched.
Home Secretary and Blackburn MP Jack Straw, launched the Engineering Learning Link Centre at Training 2000 in Blackburn.
The centre is an initiative under the University of Industry and the Engineering and Marine Training Authority.
It aims to give employers and employees ready access to computer-based learning facilities.
"We believe it will ensure that staff of both current and future employers in East Lancashire have the opportunity to obtain and develop the skills needed to sustain employment," said Jim Hargreaves. MBE, chief executive of Training 2000.
The Blackburn centre is the first to be opened in Lancashire and is one of 46 planned for the UK.
