A DAY of entertainment will celebrate the start of work on a millennium green in Colne.
The green in Shaw Street, Waterside, will include an outdoor stage for music, drama and community events.
"This is the start of a complete turnaround in the community in what has been identified as one of Pendle's most deprived areas," said local spokesman Eric Crimmins. "Everyone in the community is welcome to be involved in the millennium green project including tree planting and designing a mural above the outdoor stage."
The day of entertainment on Saturday will include a free family event from 2pm to 5pm with a cello quintet, acoustic music, bouncy castle, face painting and juggling. In the evening, from 7pm, there will be live bands including local band Pigeon Smith.
Tickets for the evening are £3 in advance, £4 on the door and £2 for under-18s. Tickets are available from Pendle Leisure Centre on 01282 661166 or Planet Record, Colne, 01282 866317.
Plans for the green will be on show at the leisure centre during the day.
Pendle Council, Lancashire County Council, Groundwork East Lancashire, the Millennium Commission and the Rural Development Agency are involved in the project.
