Rotherham United Reserves 0 Burnley Reserves 1
THE Clarets launched their Pontins League Group Cup campaign with a victory at Rotherham last night thanks to Mark Robertson's last-minute goal.
Burnley dominated the game for long periods against the reserve league's First Division leaders but had only Roberton's late strike to show for their superiority.
The home side were restricted to just one shot before the break but Craig Mawson made a smart save to deny Andrew Monkhouse.
At the other end the Clarets carved out a succession of chances with Tom Cowan the first to test Millers keeper Paul Pettinger with a powerful header.
Pettinger then saved well from Andy Cooke before John Mullin put Burnley's best chance of the half just wide after playing a one-two with Lenny Johnrose.
Rotherham hit back with Guy Sandland going close just after half-time but the Clarets regained the initiative and Cooke could have headed them in front before Paul Weller hit the post in a frantic finish.
However, Burnley finally got the goal they deserved in the final minute when Eammon Kelly crossed to the far post for Paul Weller to head home.
Johnrose then almost made it 2-0 but after being put through by Weller, his shot hit the post.
Burnley: Mawson, Scott, Cowan, Brass, Heywood (Williamson), Johnrose, Weller, Mullin (Kelly), Cooke, Robertson, Joy (Devenney).
