Warriors u/16s 22 Halton Hornets 20
AN outstanding defensive effort by Leyland helped them withstand early sustained pressure. Warriors then moved out to take a deserved lead before making some late basic errors which almost cost them the match. Highlight of the game was a superb length-of-the-field try by man of the match Ryan Finch.
Warriors u/15s 24 Golborne 4
THIS was a superb performance against Golborne. The Warriors' defence against a determined opposition was awesome, with all the team tackling well. The pack, led by Dan Lofthouse and Sam Harrison, made huge inroads into the defence, helping their backs run, and it culminated in an excellent try going through all the backs for a second try from Stuart Quinn. Leyland made a slow start, allowing Haydock Warriors u/14s to build a good lead, but in the second half they showed how they could attack and defend which resulted in a well-worked team try scored by Jamie Jackson and converted by Tom Farrimond. An outstanding display was given by top tackler and man of the match James Franklin and a good debut by new man Matt Reilly. Leyland lost 36-6.
A good showing by the Warriors in the first half in a close game between evenly matched squads allowed man of the match Matt Astley to score the only try of the period. But once again ineffective tackling let the Warriors down and also contributed to the final scoreline of 18-12 in favour of Salem Hornets u/13s.
Warriors u/12s played a close-fought game at Moss Side, Leyland, against Pilkington Recs from St Helens. The Warriors gave a good display in defence, especially Daniel Aspinall and best tackler Kieran Mee, but they tired in the second half, allowing Pilks to move the ball wide and secure three more tries to end up victors 18-4.
Warriors u/11s lost their opening games 22-4 to Leigh East Hawks and 24-12 to Royton Tigers. Man of the match Lee Connick scored their only try in the opener and, against Royton, tries were scored by Lee Connick, Sam Roucan and Josh Astley. Man of the match was Peter Heatley and top tackler was Scott Miller.
