RECORDED crime in Lancashire has fallen for the sixth year running, according to the latest Home Office figures.
Lancashire's deputy chief constable Paul Stephenson described the figures as a reflection of the hard work undertaken by police during the last year.
Overall recorded crime in the county dropped by 10.1 per cent during April 1998 and March this year, compared to 1.4 for England and Wales.
The Recorded Crime Statistics Bulletin showed the county's force recorded 12,190 domestic burglaries during the given period. Both vehicle theft and theft from vehicles fell by two per cent in England and Wales with 7,350 thefts from motor vehicles recorded by police in Lancashire. Just over 30 per cent of crimes in the county were cleared up during the twelve month time scale compared to the average of 29 per cent for England and Wales.
