I LOOK forward to receiving the Citizen each week, but I do wish you would check the facts before printing news items.
The impression given in the article about the minor dispute between St Aidan's Church, and the electricity board, is that the sole criteria for the dispute is the aesthetics of the fence.
Ugly it is, but the facts are as follows (and I have checked):
St Aidan's was not consulted;
The existing spiked fence was taken down and laid on the well-used car park (used by church members, and veterinary surgery and dentist's clients);
The warning notices of danger were removed;
The sub station, far from being fenced off, was open access for children and young people;
Since no notice was given about the intended work, it was not possible to warn the Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, Sunday School, Little Fishes, mother and toddler group, or the Noah's Oak playgroup. Trees and bushes were cut down without permission and we were entitled to three month's notice.
The impression that our incumbent was careless of children's safety could not be further from the truth.
