THE owners of a derelict block of flats in Heysham have been told to get their act together or face the consequences.
Pennington Court in Heysham is an eyesore that has long plagued neighbouring residents but this week local councillors called for a meeting with the owners to insist that something is done.
The neglected property is in the hands of receivers who have been trying to sell the property for the last four years.
They have been trying to secure the best price for the 12 flats but over the years the property has been extensively vandalised.
The local councillors have told the receivers that unless Pennington Court is sold or improved they will press the council to take enforcement action. Said Private Housing Chairman, Cllr David Kerr: "At the end of the day there are people willing to buy this property and renovate it but nothing has happened in four years. This is unacceptable and although the residents have been great about it - enough is enough. We've given an ultimatum that they need to get on with the job and we won't tolerate it in its present condition any longer."
He added: "The Council is concerned about a number of issues with regard to health and safety grounds and we can take enforcement action. The building has a sound structure but it desperately needs renovating. We realise that the receivers are trying to get the best offer but four years is too long and we are determined to use every option available to us to ensure something is done."
