ST HELENS Star Premier Division outfit Carr Mill's venture into the LCFA Junior Cup, following their two successive Intermediate Cup successes, came to a drastic end as they went out 2-3 to BRNESC Reserves.
They fielded a depleted side due to last minute cry-offs. And the ages of the emergency line up of David Ball and Barry Hynes totalled 88 years.
The Mill only went out to a last minute goal and they also missed a penalty. Rob Stroud and Shaun Tickle scoring the Carr Mill goals.
In the LCFA Intermediate Cup ties, four clubs bit the dust, with Bewsey Athletic slumping to a 1-3 home loss to NALGO Students. Old Congs (Haydock) - (Keith Barker (2) and Gary Arnold) went out 3-4 at Edge Hill College - Grosvenor Park Rangers, 3-0 up against Aintree Villa A, collapsed to a 5-6 defeat, Tony Edge 3, Peter Ireland, and Mike Edwards scoring their goals.
In their first season and first venture Meek FC failed to fulfil their fixture against the Farm.
The successful clubs included Child Reserves (with goals from Matt Richardson 2, and Peter Baker) who won 3-2 at Maggies.
Prescot Leisure Reserves (Carr, Dooley, Aresti) just edged out De La Salle Reserves 3-2 and Pilkington Reserves with goals from Paul Rees and Barrie Devlin narrowly beat Shakespeare United 2-1.
Broad Oak, having a good season, took Parfetts to a 2-2 after extra time draw, and settled the issue with a 6-5 penalty shoot-out advantage.
This Wednesday, Combination players Mark Evans (Pilks), Chris Marsh (Penlake) and Paul Forrester (Clock Face Miners Welfare) are in the Liverpool CFA youth squad to visit Lancashire FA at Leyland in the Northern Counties FA Championship.
In Sunday Division matches, Owens Corning had a 7-4 home win over Bleak Hill Rovers, but East Sutton Labour struggled before going under 4-1 at York. Ex Services (Rainhill) did not have things their own way at home against Sutton Heath Panthers, but eventually sneaked home 2-1. RESULTS
