NINE employees from Tufnells Parcel Express were taken to Warrington General Hospital following a leak of hydrochloric acid at the weekend.
Six fire crews were called to the premises in the Yew Tree Trading Estate, Haydock, at about 5am on Saturday, October 9, when a 2.5 litre container of the acid leaked. It took them an hour to make the acid safe by placing it in a new container.
An ambulance spokesman said that nine employees, who were suffering from "slight chest tightness and breathing difficulties following inhalation of the fumes" were taken to Warrington Hospital for a precautionary check-up.
