THREE Darwen swimmers kept the flag flying in recent Masters competitions.
At the Arfon Masters held at Bangor, North Wales, Barbara Morton finished top of the 65 to 69 years age group by coming first in the maximum five events. Not satisfied with dominating her age group, she set a new meet record in the 100m backstroke. Her time of 1min 52.44secs broke her own record by over one second. Garry Vickers also struck form when he was unbeaten in four events in the 30 to 34 years category.
Travelling further afield was Peter Tucker, who competed in the Irish Open Meet held in Cork. Peter won three events in the 65 to 69 years age group including the 200m freestyle where he set a new record time of 2:58.28. He was unlucky not to win the individual medley when finished three-hundredths of a second behind Vincent Cassidy, holder of several Irish records. He also claimed one bronze medal.
