RESIDENTS in Accrington have drawn up an action plan to improve their neighbourhood, which includes turning waste land into playing fields.
The Spring Hill Tenants and Residents Association (STARA), together with Hyndburn Council, has drawn up an improvement plan as part of a Government regeneration initiative.
Hyndburn MP Greg Pope was on hand to meet the group when they signed the finished plan. One of the planned improvements is turning a piece of waste land opposite TML in Exchange Street into football pitches.
The residents' association already helps the community by putting on outings for children and the elderly, fitting lighting to elderly people's homes and erecting fences.
The action plan aims to co-ordinate action and ensure that residents and the council work more closely to improve the area.
A similar initiative has already been launched on the Sands Estate in Rishton, while residents in Huncoat and Church are drawing up similar proposals.
