OUT-of-town discount stores group Matalan reported a massive leap in sales.
The group, which has 90 stores including one in Accrington selling clothing and household goods at knock down prices, saw sales jump 37.4 per cent in the latest six weeks of trading.
At the start of September Matalan, headquartered at Skelmersdale, reported half year pre-tax profits of £16.4 million, far ahead of 1998's interim profit of £6.1 million. Sales for the six months to July 3 were ahead 25 per cent at £149.3 million.
