SOCCER: Barnoldswick travelled to the home of the Lancashire FA last Saturday to take on Leyland Motors in this West Lancashire League Premier Division encounter.
Barlick appeared to be suffering from a hangover in the first half after their superb midweek victory over Burnley United. However, Leyland did start well and deservedly went in front on 25 minutes.
Good work by the home team left their centre forward with acres of space inside the 18-yard box. He had plenty of time to pick his spot to give his side a 1-0 half time lead.
After the break, Barnoldswick pushed their back line further up the park, which in turn allowed the midfield to support the forwards. This immediately gave the home team a problem and it seemed just a matter of time before the visitors would be back on terms. Unfortunately, Paul Corrigan, who had been clinical in midweek, struggled to find his shooting boots.
With the half closing in and Barlick getting more frustrated, they left plenty of gaps at the back and the Leyland attackers took full advantage. Again the centre forward had loads of space and time to pick his spot.
At 2-0, the points were fast disappearing, but again Barlick pushed forward and got a consolation goal through Corrigan with only seconds left on the referee's watch.
Barnoldswick's man-of-the-match was keeper Mitch Walker with an excellent display, particularly in the first half.
This Saturday Barnoldswick entertain Fulwood Amateurs at their West Close ground (kick-off 3pm).
