THREE goals in the space of seven second half minutes earned Stanley another impressive victory against a hard working and well organised Workington side. Fielding the same team that put 10 past Lincoln on Saturday, the Reds got off to an ideal start, taking the lead after only 10 minutes. Jamie Speare's long clearance was flicked on by John Coleman to Steve Carragher who sped past the Workington defence before blasting a shot past keeper Andrew Cassidy.
The visitors almost equalised a minute later when Mark Howard lost possession and the ball was played to Matt Swales who struck a fierce left foot shot that hit the woodwork.
The former Chorley striker hit the woodwork again on 33 minutes when his cross was deflected on to the top of the crossbar. And a minute later Workington drew level as Mark Jones struck a fierce long range shot that gave Speare no chance.
The visitors made a bright start to the second half as Matt Henney twice went close. But Stanley's three goal blitz began on 65 minutes when a high ball into the penalty area was bravely headed on by Jonathan Smith to player/boss Coleman who netted from close range.
Four minutes later, it was 3-1 when the impressive Gary Williams received the ball on the edge of the box and struck a brilliant curling left foot shot into the top corner for his 12th goal of the season.
Accrington's fourth on 71 minutes was a superb solo effort from Mark Shirley who ended a powerful run with a 20 yard shot past Cassidy, to score the rampaging Reds' 19th goal in only three games.
GREAT Harwood boss Denis Underwood will use tonight's friendly against Crewe Alexandra Reserves as a trial for a couple of possible transfer targets.
The match kicks off at The Showground at 7.30pm.
