CLITHEROE produced possibly their worst performance of the season to end their unbeaten run away at Salford City last night in this North Western Trains League Division One match. Blues boss Steve Parry was said to be "lost for words" as his side trudged off the pitch after a terrible show against a City side lying 17th in the table.
Second half goals from Rhodry Giggs, younger brother of Manchester United star Ryan, and Gareth Sweeney sunk the visitors, who failed to create a single opportunity of note.
Midfielder Dennis Hill, inspirational over the last few games, was also at a loss to explain his side's loss of form.
"The less said about the game the better," said a despondent Hill. "We looked like a different team altogether, I don't know what went wrong."
Giggs scored the home side's first on 51 minutes in one of the game's rare highlights with a well-struck shot that beat keeper Chris Richens to open the scoring. But Clitheroe failed to respond with any kind of attacking threat, and after 68 minutes the lead was doubled with a well worked goal rounded off by the impressive Sweeney.
Clitheroe will have to put this performance to the back of their minds and concentrate on how they can really play if they are to emerge victorious from Saturday's home game with St Helens Town.
