LAMMACK Junior School moved a step closer to a dream date at Wembley after winning the Blackburn Primary Schools six-a-side competition for the second time in three years.
The super six beat the town's top mini teams to book a place in the Lancashire finals - and moved a step closer to winning a trip to the Twin Towers for the national event.
A 1-0 win against the much-fancied Meadowhead School side proved to be decisive as Lammack finished top of the five team league with three wins and a draw.
However, before the grand finale, which will take place on the same day as the Worthington Cup final, Lammack would have to win through both the county and North West competitions.
And the school will be hoping to strike it lucky this time around after winning the town event in 1997 - only to have a disappointing Lancashire final.
Lammack qualified for the Blackburn primary school finals after successfully winning their preliminary group last week.
Other teams to make it through, which were held at Wensley Fold Primary School, were Holy Souls, Meadowhead, St Paul's Feniscowles and host side Wensley Fold.
However, before the five sides made it to finals day, preliminary rounds were held at five schools around Blackburn last week.
And Lammack - who beat St Barnabas/St Paul's 3-0 and St Gabriel's 1-0 - repeated that form this week.
The school won their three opening games, which included a 1-0 win against St Paul's Feniscowles and a 2-0 win against reigning champions Holy Souls, to give them an unassailable lead at the top of the table.
However, Wensley Fold nearly ruined their 100 per cent record when Lammack had to come from behind to draw 1-1.
Lammack's goal heroes on the day were Adam Roger and Paul Hughes, who grabbed two apiece, while Adam Ramsden scored one goal.
Meadowhead finished as runners-up with seven points after winning one, drawing two and that one defeat against Lammack.
St Paul's Feniscowles and Holy Souls were joint third with four points while Wensley Fold had to settle for two points from two draws as the finished in fifth place.
Lammack coach Norman Marshall said: "The boys played very well and are now looking forward to the Lancashire finals. Hopefully we can do a lot better than last time out."
