MAIL order group Great Universal Stores, which employs more than 500 in Burnley, has appointed an e-commerce expert to its board.
The firm said the move was part of a major expansion of its internet services.
Michael de Kare-Silver began work at GUS this week and is reviewing each of the group's businesses, which include retail giant Argos and clothing brand Burberry, to see how they can advance their e-commerce strategies.
The appointment comes as GUS is facing falling sales.
Earlier this month it reported a seven per cent drop in first-half home shopping sales and said the mail order market had been weak all year.
Clothing sales have also suffered and were believed to be more than 10 per cent down for the six months to September 30.
GUS finance director David Tyler said the company hoped its planned expansion of its Internet services would boost sales.
