Hoylake 39, Vulcan 0
MISSING seven first team regulars, Vulcan faced an uphill task.
But straight form the kick-off they went on the offensive with the backs running the ball from deep.
Millard, Bell and Hatton gave Rigby space to put a perfectly placed cross field kick, for flying winger Healey to catch. But was brought down just short of the line.
This flowing movement seemed to wake up the home team and within 20 minutes, Hoylake were 22-0 up.
It was mainly through Vulcan losing the ball in the set pieces and the home team barging over. At half time Vulcan were 27-nil down.
For the entire second half Vulcan threw caution to the wind and played some outstanding rugby with Whittal, Williams, Jones and Wood all going close.
Crinnigan, Healey, Turton and Baines also made telling tackles. This terrier like defence kept the home side out for most of the second half, until Hoylake grabbed two late tries
Man opf the match was M.Turton, who showed tremendoud courage though out the match. Vulcan travel to Hoylake again this week for a top-of-the-table clash.
Training is on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm, at the sportsfield and all players are welcome. Vulcan 2nd 34, Chorley 15
Vulcan outclassed a much bigger Chorley outfit. The first 20 minutes were very evenly matched, then after some good build up play G. Crooks scored for the home side. Chorley came back strongly and levelled the scores. Moments later an excellent break by M. Lawrenson gave Vulcan a good attacking base and good play by R.Brown gave J. Kay the chance to score in the corner. Just before half-time good rucking and mauling by the Vulcan forwards laid the foundations for the backs to again exploit the Chorley defence with C .Laughton finishing the move.
The second half saw Vulcan make a number of changes, which gave Chorley some confidence and after some excellent tackling the Vulcan line was breached to make the score line 17-10. Vulcan came back and some good handling by the back saw J.Cunliffe scoot in at the corner.
The disheatened Chorley side were dealt another blow when man of the match J.Kay crossed for another try. The Chorley side poached another try just moments later due to the poor Vulcan defence.
At this point Vulcan brought on F.Healey to steady the ship and the experienced player did just that. Just before the fianl whistle Vulcan grabbed another try when C. Laughton touched down.
