FLEETWOOD is set to benefit from a pioneering scheme promoting increased employment.
The project, known as the Business Development Grant Scheme, encourages businesses to expand where possible by offering grants of up to £2,000 per each new job created - with a maximum of £20,000 per company.
And businesses with fewer than 50 employees are being welcomed to submit proposals to Wyre Borough Council now.
Chairman of the council's economic development sub committee Peter Pimbley said: "The scheme is specifically targeted at smaller businesses, employing less than 50 people.
"The goal is to support the growth of Fleetwood's industrial and commercial sectors and encourage other businesses to relocate in the area, ultimately benefiting the local economy." Chairman of the Fleetwood Regeneration Partnership Richard Anyon is equally delighted with the scheme.
He said: "This is great news for Fleetwood. Hopefully as many businesses as possible will come on board and grab the opportunity to expand, promote and invest in new areas of work."
Monies to fund the scheme will come from the government's Single Regeneration Budget and administered by Wyre council.
Applicants will need to demonstrate their business is soundly-based and that it offers genuine potential for employment growth.
Businesses requesting information can contact Mark Pearson, industrial liaison officer, on (01253) 887617.
