ANNIE ENGLAND this week received her MBE "on behalf of all nurses".
The Lowton-born community nurse was named in the Queen's Birthday Honours list in June.
Annie, who has spent 33 years in the caring profession, said: "All I ever wanted to be was a hands-on nurse. I never expected to be at Buckingham Palace to be honoured by the Queen.
"I accepted the honour on behalf of all nurses doing a good job."
Annie, of Bolton Road, Westhoughton, attended Lowton CP and Golborne Girls' Secondary.
She was a cadet nurse at Leigh, where she spent 28 years, progressing to staff nurse; later she became a school nurse for disabled children.
She has been a community nurse in Westhoughton since May.
Annie (pictured) is married to John and has two children Laura, 17, and Christopher, 15.
