A LEIGH anti-abortionist has backed Scottish Catholic Church action this week to help a 12-year-old mum keep her baby.
Mary Lavelle, secretary of the Leigh branch of The Society for the Protection of Unborn Children, said: "This is compassion in action, not bribery as inferred by the pro-abortion lobby."
And she added: " I am aware of the initiative Cardinal Thomas Winning launched a couple of years ago to help support mothers with the enormous expenses incurred with a new baby.
"Pro-abortionists and the sex industry have for years, with their propaganda, enticed our children in earthy sexual behaviour at an astronomical cost to society, both financial and moral. "They even aid and abet children to deceive their parents in such matters, dangling advice and condoms. Then, when these fail, they are ever ready to step in and relieve these mothers of their 'unwanted products', the baby and building a multi-million pound empire.
"Pro-lifers, on the other hand, have no axe to grind, giving up their time freely, no grants or generous government incentives for them, their only motives being compassion and respect for all human life."
October 27 is the 32nd anniversary of the Abortion Act, which Mary claims is responsible for the deliberate destruction of five million unborn babies in Britain.
She says anyone concerned about the continuing lack of respect for human life from the cradle to the grave should join Leigh SPUC members who will commemorate the anniversary with a short time of prayer and reflection on Leigh Town Hall Square on that day.
