BURY'S new East Area Board is calling for a new link to the borough's new accident and emergency unit.
Concerns were expressed on Monday evening over the expected increase in traffic to Fairfield General Hospital when the town's casualty unit moves there from Bury General.
A number of residents believe Bury Council and health chiefs should meet to discuss the possibility of creating an access road to the Rochdale Old Road site from Heywood to ease future traffic congestion.
East Area Board chairman Councillor Mike Connolly said: "We are all aware of traffic problems on Rochdale Old Road and of the problems that could occur when the new accident and emergency unit opens.
"If a new access road is what this area board wants then it is something that we will look into."
