KEEN greens came out in their thousands to make Bury Environment Week a huge success.
Children and adults alike got stuck into a range of events to show their commitment to the borough's surroundings.
The week culminated in an Environment Fair, the biggest in the region, at Castle Leisure Centre on Saturday, October 16. There people listened to conservation advice from 50 stallholders, enjoyed music and entertainment, and took part in prize-winning competitions.
Tim Jones, the council's environment policy development officer, said that more than 2,000 people visited the Environment Fair.
Mr Jones was also pleased with the public's response to the Government's "Are You Doing Your Bit?" roadshow. More than 1,200 entered the mobile exhibition, the largest turnout in the country behind London and Birmingham city centres.
"We've had lots of phone calls, faxes and e-mails from people who enjoyed the day," he said.
