Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School, Blackburn and Queen Elizabeth's School, Kirkby Lonsdale, were involved in a curious windswept affair in the Daily Mail Schools Under-18s Cup second round, in which both sides produced their best work playing into a gale.
Kirkby Lonsdale were first to use the elements, but found themselves 15-3 adrift at half time. They, in turn, responded well to adversity before going down 18-10. The Blackburn boys now visit Bradford Grammar in round three.
Round three pairings: Barnard Castle v QEGS Penrith; Wirral Grammar v Merchant Taylors; Hutton v Crossley Heath; Rydal Penrhos v Birkenhead School; King Edward and Queen Mary's Lytham v William Hulmes GS; St Ambrose College v Manchester Grammar; Stockport GS v QEGS; Wakefield Widnes Sixth Form College v RGS Lancaster; Ullswater College v Rossall; Winstanley College v Rishworth School Halifax; Bradford GS v QEGS Blackburn.
