EAST Lancashire Tory MP Nigel Evans has demanded Lancashire County Council bans French meat in its schools and old people's homes.
The Ribble Valley MP wants it to follow Kent with an embargo after revelations that farm animals in France have been fed human sewage.
He has also attacked the government for "dithering" and failing to follow its own scientists in preventing the import of the meat.
He said: "Following the news that the French have been feeding their cows and other farm animals human excrement, I have asked Lancashire County Council to ban French meat from all schools and old people's homes.
"I know for certain that while there is a risk that some French meat may well have been bred on human excrement and even the animals' own, parents will not want their children exposed to this kind of meat.
"The government has created a climate of uncertainty and the present position on the issue is confused. It is no wonder that councils are ignoring their advice and deciding to go alone and act on behalf of ordinary people.
"It is only right that we protect the most vulnerable in our society from meat that has been bred on human excrement.
"It is ironic that a government which uses its own directors banning beef on the bone despite their own scientists saying that it is safe decides not to ban French meat which their own scientists say is unsafe."
