OSWALDTWISTLE UNITED 4 ROSSENDALE VALLEY ACES 0

THE home side proved too strong for the Valley outfit, in a VMI Accrington and District Boys' League match played at a gusty Bullough Park.

Playing in a roving midfield role, United skipper Joel Byrom enjoyed the large open spaces created in the middle of the park and duly took advantage after 10 minutes when, unchallenged, he approached the Aces' penalty area and fired a fierce shot into the roof of the net.

Winger Dan Clarkson made it 2-0 on the stroke of half time, following good work from Dan Pilkington. Clarkson was also on target mid-way through the second period with a delightful lob over the Rossendale keeper.

Late on, persistence in a crowded Valley area from striker Mark Turnbull paid off when he knocked in the fourth Ossy goal, eight minutes from time. Byrom was voted man of the match by referee Andy Breckell.

OSWALDTWISTLE UNITED 11 BLACKBURN DYNAMOS 0

UNITED manager Alan Byrom was quoted as saying that this was "the best performance he had ever experienced" in the five years since he formed the team.

Indeed, the luckless Dynamos were unfortunate to find themselves on the end of what was a rather one-sided affair.

However, the visitors did not disgrace themselves.

On a rain-swept Foxhill pitch skipper, Joel Byrom led the way with four goals, helped along by forward Chris McGrath (2), Mark Turnbull (2), plus one each from Simon Bellusci, Kurt Smithson and midfielder Dan Pilkington.

The result ensures United maintain their 100 per cent record at the top of their section of the McDonalds Hyndburn and District Boys' League.
