PUPILS at a Blackburn school are going green - inside and outside the classroom.
The youngsters from Meadowhead Junior School, Anglesey Street, have been learning the value of recycling and energy efficiency through in-class projects.
And they have been helping create garden areas within the school grounds, using plants donated by parents and friends of the school.
Teacher Heather Gilbert said she wanted the pupils to understand the economies of recycling and help them take responsibility for the aesthetic appearance of their immediate environment.
The pupils' efforts have been backed by help from school caretaker Brian Wright.
The school has entered the Lancashire Evening Telegraph's Grimewatch competition, which rewards all kinds of green efforts.
There are categories for schools, community groups, local authorities, businesses and individuals, as well as long-term projects and schemes which celebrate East Lancashire's heritage.
The competition is run in conjunction with British Aerospace, Groundwork, the Tidy Britain Group and the Environment Agency.
