A DRUNKEN building worker pushed his mother about and then smashed a window as he left her home, a court was told.

Burnley magistrates heard how Jason Harry Riley, 28, was "basically out of control," when he had been drinking.

Mike Travers, prosecuting, added: "Clearly, you should never put your hands on your mother."

Riley, of Dent Street, Colne, was conditionally discharged for 12 months and bound over in the sum of £100 for 12 months. He was also ordered pay £45 costs.

Riley admitted destroying or damaging property and breaching the peace. An allegation of assault by beating was withdrawn.

Mr Travers told the court it was a "sorry state" when a man appeared in court for behaviour directed towards his mother. Riley was apparently normal, but when in drink, was out of control.

He did not accept he assaulted his mother, but that he pushed her about, he claimed, in self defence.

John McNabb, defending, said Riley and his mother got on extremely well at a distance, but when they were in the same house, did not get along.

He acknowledged his behaviour was inappropriate. When he left the house the defendant's mother locked the door and he accepted he broke a window.

What had happened had not completely soured their relationship, but had not helped. It was an isolated incident and not the sort of situation the defendant normally found himself in.
