CLAYTON supervets Ross Jaques and Doug Brown stormed to a one-two finish in the over 60 class at the Withins Skyline Fell Race on Saturday.
Ross, a member of Clayton's over 50 English Championship winning fell team took victory by completing the seven mile tour of BrontM- country in 56.56. Doug was a minute behind in 58.00.
In a race dominated by former English and British Champion Ian Holmes, three of our local clubs were represented in the top 20 with Todmorden's Karl Smith best placed in seventh. Rossendale Harrier Adrian Murphy was 11th and Shaun Addison of Clayton, in 18th was third M40.
The ladies race brought together Yorkshire's three greatest talents, but Lucy Wright made light work of the opposition finishing 15th in a field of 175. In the high class field Judith Hindle was fourth L40, with her Clayton team-mate Helen Jones close behind in her first-ever fell race.
The day was a triumph for the Addison family with Shaun's success in the main race following outstanding performances by his children in the junior event. Under 12 Mark was the outright winner of the one-mile race and in a time of 6.22 beating all the under 14 runners in the process, and Penny and Jenny were first and second under nine girls. Another young Clayton Harrier, Ashley Rutherford, was the winning under nine boy while Grace Biddle of Pendle was third under 12 girl.
