ON the weekend when the River Darwen was being cleaned up, I took a walk to Jack's Key Lodge in Darwen and was thrilled to see it was nearly half full, with lots of ducks and moorhens there.

It was the first time I had seen any water in it since it was drained years ago.

Thinking it was because of the recent heavy rain, I revisited it a few days later, after more rain, to find it empty again.

I concluded that the 'plug' had been pulled again.

While I am not interested in seeing the lodge developed, it would be so nice to have the plug put back so that Jack's Key Lodge can once again be an amenity for the residents of the Whitehall/Cranberry area.
