THE number of firms collapsing in the region has fallen dramatically.
The number of receiverships fell from 52 to 36 in the third quarter of the year - a drop of 31 per cent.
However, the North West and the South West were the only two regions in the country to record significant reductions.
Nationally figures increased by 13 per cent.
"The marked decline in receiverships in the North West should be cautiously welcomed," said Peter Terry, head of KPMG corporate recovery in the North.
"Inflation continues to remain under control and unemployment is close to its lowest level for 20 years.
"There are even reports that the manufacturing sector is beginning to record higher levels of orders and output."
