LEIGH MR slumped to a 24-8 home defeat against Walney Central.

A one-sided first half saw the visitors ease to a 16-0 lead, and it could've been more as they had a try disallowed in the opening two minutes.

Walney opened the scoring after the break with a converted try.

In the final quarter MR hit back with with a try from winger Howard Newton after good work from sub forward Danny Flannery.

Second row Steve Flannery stormed on to a Mick Warburton pass for a touchdown to bring a little respectability to the scoreline.

The Cumbrians ended the game with a long range penalty and a comfortable win.

Tomorrow (Friday) MR entertain arch rivals Wigan St Pat's.

The youth side made light work of the incessant rain and the small St Helens pitch to beat Clock Face 38-6.

Tries from Simon Hartley 2, Steve Clark, Richard Varkulis, Jimmy Thompson, Darryl Rowlands and Lee Hart. Hartley added a penalty and four goals.
