BAMBER Bridge manager Tony Greenwood sees no reason why his side can't reach the second round of the FA Cup.

Brig face St Albans on Saturday in the club's first ever foray into FA Cup first round territory.

Tony said: "We're looking forward to it immensely. It's a massive game for the club and we have every chance of making it into the second round, and we're preparing for it right now.

"The midweek game against Leigh didn't help our preparations because it gave us the possibility of picking up injuries."

Whittaker opened the scoring for Brig in a hard-fought match which neither side seemed to dominate. But the moment of the match came from a Brig player - Turner making a superb run through the midfield to slam home the second.

Title-favourites Leigh fought hard to get back in the game and the final 2-2 scoreline was fair for the workrate of both sides.

Greenwood continued: "I rested Carroll and Greenwood with Saturday in mind. Now all we're sweating over is Ian Vickers, who has picked up five yellow cards. Whether his suspension comes in the post before the match or not, we'll just have to wait and see.

"St Albans are non-league like us and we have every chance of progressing."

Brig face a stern task in the first round of the FA Trophy. For the third time in four seasons, their opponents will be Burton Albion from the Doc Marten's League.

Tony said: "The last two times we played them was at their ground and they won. This time, we'll see what they're like away from home.

"Nigel Clough is doing a great job and pulling all of the strings there so it will be tough."
