IF you will allow me I would like to allay the fears of some of the residents of Greaves in the Scotforth West Ward, regarding circulating rumours about a possible application for a housing development on the Dorrington Road Playing Fields. These worries have been passed to me by a few people.
I was not aware of any such proposal. City councillors get a regular sheet of planning applications from the council's planning department. I immediately telephoned planning and they too had not heard of such plans. They did make enquiries for me and found that any plans for development would have to go through the county council.
With this in mind I contacted County Hall at Preston. I spoke to several people in the planning department there who weren't aware of any proposals. I spoke to the chief architect and he gave me the same answer.
There must be a misunderstanding along the line. I believe that there may be some confusion with the recent application for the residential development now going ahead on Scotforth Road at full steam.
I am sure that since Scotforth St. Paul's School have recently receded a good part of the Dorrington Road Playing Fields (which they use for their school sports), it would seem a bit ridiculous to now build houses there especially after the purchase of the soil and seeds. It would be a complete waste of school funds and hard work.
As ward councillor I feel that it is any duty to keep all residents in the ward up to date with any matters of concern in the area, and I assure them of my best intentions at all times.
Cllr Sheila Denwood
Scotforth West
