ON October 13 I attended a meeting of the planning control sub-committee at the town hall to hear their verdict concerning my application to restrain what I consider to be over-development close to my property.

There were many cases to be heard, far too many for one evening's consideration, I felt. Fifty-one were listed, seven of which were cancelled. Interested parties were given two minutes to explain their views.

I came to the conclusion that the whole affair was farcical and that the chairman had already made up his mind, the rest of the committee following like sheep. There was no discussion whatsoever. It may be that the members had gone into all the details beforehand, but that was not made clear.

I felt that my views were regarded as being of no consequence. Sixty seconds was all it took to decide against my application. I had not felt very confident in my plea, but I did think that it merited a little more time and interest.
