I RECENTLY went to Oswaldtwistle to see if I could pinpoint where my brother and I stayed when we were evacuated from Salford in 1939.
I was 13 and my brother 12. We stayed first of all at a barber's shop in Union Road. Then we moved to a private house and a school was just around the corner.
I found more than one barber's shop on Union Road and I could not find the school.
If there are any relatives still around of the families we stayed with, I would be glad to hear from them.
