West Park 16 Kirkby Lonsdale 6 PARK came down to earth with a bump after the euphoria of their big cup win against Aldwinians the previous week.

And the visitors were determined to avoid a repeat of the 50-point hammering they took at Red Rocks last season.

The visitors' typically big and craggy Cumbrian pack disrupted Parks scrums and lines to such an extent that half-backs Danny and Dominic MacCormack were under constant pressure. Glen Fletcher kicked an early Park penalty, but Jas Hadwin replied with a similar effort.

After 15 minutes a blindside break from a set scrum saw winger Chris Stabler sidestep the full-back to score in the corner.

In the second half a blood injury to second-rower Rob Hanson brought Liam McLoughlin off the bench, casuing more disruption to Park in the absence of skipper Sean Fletcher.

At last Park broke away, but the scoring pass went astray as Phil Lawrenson replaced Dominic MacCormack at fly-half.

A superb sequence of play involving forwards and backs led to Martin Strett sending in Stabler for his second try.

Hadwin made it 13-6 with his second penalty, but Fletcher cancelled it out with a similar effort.

This Saturday Park are due to visit Widnes in an unconfirmed friendly.
