A CAT with bags of character who was snapped by his owner sitting on a bird table will be seen by people all over the Europe.

Bruno has been owned by Owen and Shirley Stanton, of Halifax Road, Briercliffe, since he was rescued in Edenfield 10 years ago.

Now his photograph has been reproduced in a cat calendar, Lots of Cuddles, which is sold all over Europe.

Mrs Stanton, a retired home for the elderly worker, said: "It was a lovely sunny day and I looked out from the kitchen window and saw Bruno on the bird table.

"He is a real character and everyone knows him in this area. He is not a climbing cat and yet he had managed to climb up on the table.

"Bruno has never caught a bird he just likes to watch them. It looked just like he had decided the bird table was his so I grabbed the camera and took a picture of him."

Mrs Stanton was so pleased with the picture she had it enlarged and framed for her wall. She has bought cat calendars for years and decided to send off the picture to see if they were interested.

Peter Winship, managing director of Him and Him Calendars, of Welwyn, said: "It is unusual for us to accept a photograph taken by an amateur but in all the years I have been doing this it was the first time I have seen such an unusual picture."

Bruno appears in October, which coincidentally is when both Mr and Mrs Stanton celebrate their birthdays.

Sadly Mrs Stanton said Bruno had been diagnosed with cancer and is on regular check-ups.
